About RobertAnthony Cruz
RobertAnthony Cruz — "RAC" on the back of his jersey and "Coach RAC" to his followers — is the Savannah Bananas' starting left fielder. He grew up in Fontana, California, was homeschooled for most of his childhood, and played high school ball at Arrowhead Christian Academy in Redlands.
College offers were scarce. Cruz hit just .170 as a freshman at UC Riverside before transferring to Biola University, a Division II program, where he turned his career around and finished with a .326 average and 21 home runs. On July 13, 2021, the Washington Nationals signed him as a free agent, giving him a brief run in affiliated pro ball before he was released.
After the Nationals let him go, Cruz started posting hitting and fielding lessons on TikTok. "Coach RAC" built an audience of more than 1.5 million, and roughly a year and a half later the Bananas brought him in.
