How Banana Ball standings work
The Banana Ball Championship League table looks like a baseball standings page, but three things make it different from the MLB table you're used to reading.
Every inning counts
Banana Ball scores by points, not runs. Win an inning — score more runs than the other team in that frame — and you earn one point. The ninth inning is the exception: every run counts as a point, so a team that trails can catch up in a hurry. The team with more points wins the game, which is why this table shows points for (PF) and points against (PA) and why a lopsided run total does not always mean a lopsided result. Winning percentage, not wins
The six BBCL teams tour different cities and play an uneven number of games, so the league ranks teams by winning percentage. A team with 26 wins can sit above a team with 27 if it has lost fewer games. The GB column is the familiar games-back figure against the leader, but it is the percentage that decides the seeds.
The Banana Ball Open golden ticket
Before the regular season, the top four teams from the preseason play the Banana Ball Open in April. The Open champion earns an automatic playoff berth no matter where it finishes in the table. In 2026 that ticket belongs to the Texas Tailgaters, which is why their status reads "clinched" above regardless of their record.
The four tiebreakers
- Head-to-head record between the tied teams.
- Total successful trick plays across the season — yes, the between-the-legs catches and behind-the-back throws are in the rulebook, and they decide seeds.
- Point differential (PF minus PA).
- Head-to-head trick plays in games between the tied teams.
Our table applies the first three automatically; the feed we read does not track trick plays per matchup, so the fourth tiebreaker is noted here rather than computed.
Road to the Banana Bowl
The 2026 season is the first with a true championship. 4 teams advance to the October playoffs — the Open champion plus the next three by winning percentage — and the last two standing meet in the inaugural Banana Bowl at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The playoff bracket before the Bowl has not been published by the league yet; when it is, the playoff format page will carry it.
Reading the table
- W / L / PCT — regular-season wins, losses, and winning percentage.
- GB — games behind the first-place team.
- PF / PA / DIFF — innings won, innings lost, and the difference.
- Tricks — successful trick plays, the second tiebreaker.
