About Dakota Albritton
Dakota "Stilts" Albritton is the Savannah Bananas' most recognizable player and the only pitcher in baseball who takes the mound on stilts. Standing 10 feet 9 inches in his gear, he fields, hits and pitches without ever coming down, and Baseball Reference lists him as the tallest player in the sport.
Albritton is from Ellaville, Georgia, where he attended Schley County Middle/High School and helped the baseball team reach the state title game as a senior. The stilts came first, though: he got a pair for Christmas at age 10 and, by his own telling, ran across the yard on them the first time he put them on.
He joined the Bananas in 2021 at age 20. His mother heard the team was looking for unusual talents and arranged a tryout; Jesse Cole was sold once Albritton showed he could actually hit while wearing the stilts. Because of his height, pitchers have to throw to a strike zone set between his real knees and chest, and he swings a 33-inch, 30-ounce bat from up there.
Five seasons later he is a fixture of the Savannah show — greeting fans from above the dugout, taking at-bats, and making occasional relief appearances that are always the loudest moment of the night.
