About Bill LeRoy
Bill LeRoy is the longest-serving player on the Savannah Bananas and the catcher in the cheetah-print gear. From Dublin, Georgia, he played college baseball at the University of North Georgia (2017–2021), where he was a catcher with a strong offensive profile for the Nighthawks.
His Bananas story started by accident. As a college sophomore, LeRoy's coach told him about a quirky team in Savannah that needed a fill-in for a week. The one-week "rental" turned into a full contract that same summer, and he played four summers for the Bananas while they were still a Coastal Plain League club before staying on when the team went all-in on Banana Ball.
Behind the plate he is the architect of the team's trick throw-downs — behind-the-back and between-the-legs throws to second that have been viewed tens of millions of times — and in front of the plate he is known for grabbing the microphone to introduce himself before an at-bat, a bit MLB.com wrote up when it went viral. He wears No. 1.
Eight-plus years in, LeRoy has played in front of well over two million fans and shared the field with MLB legends on the tour. He has also become one of the faces of the team's media side, breaking down his trick throw-downs on the Bananas' own channels and building a large following of his own. In 2026 he remains Savannah's primary catcher and a productive hitter, batting over .300 with an OPS above .900 through August; his live stat line is above.
