About Tanner Allen
Tanner Allen brought one of the best college résumés in Banana Ball to the Loco Beach Coconuts in 2026. Born June 5, 1998, in Theodore, Alabama, he played baseball and football at UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile and turned down the Chicago Cubs after they drafted him in the 36th round in 2017 to enroll at Mississippi State.
In Starkville he became a star. After hitting .287 as a freshman and .349 as a sophomore, Allen's 2021 senior season was one of the best in the country: a .383/.456/.621 line with 11 home runs, 66 RBI and 11 steals. He was named SEC Player of the Year, a consensus All-American and the ABCA National Player of the Year, and he led the Bulldogs to their first College World Series championship.
The Miami Marlins took him in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2021 draft. His four minor-league seasons were a grind — a .271 average across three affiliates in 2023 was the high point — and he topped out at Double-A Pensacola before the Marlins released him on August 2, 2024. He also spent a college summer with the Amsterdam Mohawks, who were among the first to celebrate his Banana Ball selection.
On November 13, 2025, the expansion Coconuts selected Allen in the inaugural Banana Ball draft. He has been their left fielder and one of the league's best pure hitters ever since, carrying an average near .380 and an OPS over 1.000 through August while wearing No. 10.
