How many Banana Ball teams are there?

There are six teams in the 2026 Banana Ball Championship League (BBCL): the Savannah Bananas, Party Animals, Firefighters, Texas Tailgaters, Loco Beach Coconuts and Indianapolis Clowns. Savannah Bananas: the name nobody took seriously

When Jesse and Emily Cole took over Savannah's summer collegiate franchise ahead of the 2016 season, they let fans name the team. The contest narrowed to five finalists: the Savannah Anchors, Bananas, Party Animals, Ports and Seagulls. The Bananas beat out the Anchors and Ports, and the name, logo and colors were revealed on February 25, 2016.

Plenty of locals thought it was a mistake. It turned out to be the best branding decision in modern minor baseball. "Savannah Bananas" rhymes, it's impossible to forget, and it gave the club permission to be silly with everything else — the yellow tuxedo, the dance breaks and, eventually, the rules themselves. Party Animals: the runner-up that got a second life

Here's the fun part: Party Animals was one of the five finalists in that 2016 naming contest. It was eliminated before the reveal, but it didn't stay on the shelf. When the Bananas needed an opponent for Banana Ball games in 2020, the Party Animals became the second team — the rowdy, black-and-pink foil to Savannah's yellow.

The name fits the job. The Party Animals were built to be the villains fans loved to boo, and their routines are louder and more theatrical than anything else on the tour. Firefighters: a name that's a mission statement

Jesse Cole announced the Firefighters on October 5, 2023, after his own kids' fascination with firefighters sparked the idea. They took the field on May 30, 2024 at Grayson Stadium.

Unlike most sports nicknames, this one is literal. Players bat in fire helmets instead of batting helmets, the red uniforms borrow the reflective stripes of turnout gear, and the roster deliberately includes people with real fire-service ties — head coach Valerie Perez is a working firefighter. Texas Tailgaters: named for the parking lot

The Texas Tailgaters were announced on October 3, 2024 as Banana Ball's first regional team, built to headline games across Texas and Oklahoma. The name comes from the part of a game day many Texans love most: the tailgate.

That theme shows up everywhere. The uniforms use the colors of the Texas state flag, a country band travels with the team, line dancing replaces some of the usual choreography, and manager Joe Mikulik coaches in chaps and a cowboy hat. Loco Beach Coconuts: is Loco Beach a real place?

No. Loco Beach is not a real town or beach. It's a fictional brand. The Coconuts were announced on October 9, 2025 as a tropical, beach-party team, and unlike the Tailgaters or the Clowns, the league never tied them to a real market. The beach travels with the team.

The name does exactly what it's supposed to: it tells you the vibe in three words. Expect tropical uniforms, coastal music and two mascots, Coco the Coconut and Peter Colada. Indianapolis Clowns: the name with the deepest history

The Indianapolis Clowns name wasn't invented for Banana Ball. It belongs to one of the most famous barnstorming teams in baseball history. The original Clowns launched in the 1930s, played in the Negro American League from 1943 to 1954, and kept touring for decades before folding in 1989. They signed Hank Aaron to his first professional contract and were among the first pro teams to field women, including Toni Stone.

The original Clowns mixed real baseball with comedy routines — which is why Jesse Cole has pointed to them as a direct ancestor of Banana Ball.
