How a team makes the 2026 Banana Ball playoffs
Four teams reach the postseason, and they get there two different ways.
One spot was settled in April. The Banana Ball Open is a four-team knockout at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, contested by the best teams from the February–April preseason. Its winner gets an automatic playoff berth, banked five months before anyone else knows their fate. The Texas Tailgaters won the inaugural Open on April 16–19, beating the Savannah Bananas in the final on the Bananas' own field. Texas has been locked in ever since.
The other three spots come from the regular-season table. Every BBCL game between two league teams from late April through September 27 counts, and each club is scheduled for 50 of them. Because the six teams split up across different cities each weekend, they don't arrive at 50 at the same pace or against the same mix of opponents — which is why the league ranks by winning percentage, not by raw wins. Open, playoff, championship, exhibition and preseason games are all excluded from the table.
A few Banana Ball wrinkles matter here. There are no ties. A win counts the same whether it comes in regulation, through a Showdown tiebreaker, or on an Equalizer finish. And the league tracks points — innings won — rather than runs, which is where the tiebreakers get interesting.
Where the 2026 race stands

Read that carefully, because the top line is a little misleading. Texas leads and holds the Open berth, so the Tailgaters are effectively occupying a spot that was never going to be contested. That means the real fight is for the three standings places behind them — and only about a game and a half separates the third-place Coconuts, the fourth-place Party Animals and the Firefighters on the outside looking in.
The Bananas are the safest of the non-clinched teams, five games clear of the cut line with eleven to play. Below them it is genuinely open: the Party Animals hold the last spot by a single game over the Firefighters, and the Clowns are 2.5 back with ten left, which is close enough that a hot fortnight flips everything.

The tiebreakers that could decide it
With margins this thin, ties are likely. The BBCL separates level teams in this order:
- Head-to-head record in regular-season games between the tied teams.
- Total successful trick plays across the season. Yes, really — the behind-the-back catches and between-the-legs throws are logged in the official box score, and more of them wins the tiebreak. No other league seeds a postseason on style points.
- Point differential, meaning innings won minus innings lost — Banana Ball's version of run differential.
- Head-to-head trick plays, counting only the games between the tied teams.

What happens in October
When the league published the 2026 schedule back in October 2025, it slotted the playoff tournament for October 1–4 at Grayson Stadium in Savannah, and the official schedule currently lists a multi-team event there on October 1 with the start time still to be announced.
The championship game is the part that's nailed down. The Banana Bowl is Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., first pitch 7 p.m. ET, streaming on Disney+ and the Banana Ball YouTube channel. It's a neutral-site, one-game final in a 41,373-seat major-league park, with all six teams and their casts on hand and a closing Final Inning Show. What the league hasn't said yet
Be skeptical of anyone claiming to know more than this. As of late August 2026, the BBCL has not published the bracket, the seeding rules, whether the semifinals are single games or short series, or the playoff broadcast schedule. There's also an unresolved edge case: the league described the field as "the top three teams plus the Open winner," but never spelled out what happens if the Open champion also finishes in the top three. The natural reading is that fourth-best record takes the last seat — and Texas is currently first, so this is not hypothetical.
